One of the difficulties of accepting a new job or a long term assignment in a different area is finding the right place to stay. Corporate housing is basically furnished apartment which is available for a temporary arrangement, usually longer than 30 days. The average stay in corporate housing last year was 84 nights. If you’ve decided to stay in corporate temporary housing, the next struggle you’re going to have is packing well. Here are a few expert tips and tricks for doing it.
1. Ask which amenities the rental has.
Short term rentals like corporate housing are actually generally equipped with many of the things you’re going to need while staying there. Most are fully furnished and have separate rooms for the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Call ahead to see what other amenities are already there, like dishes, appliances, linens and bedding, and so on.
2. Pack as little clothing as possible.
Since the idea is to bring as few things with you as possible, you should think carefully when you’re packing your clothing. Some corporate housing rentals have laundry services or machines on site, so it’s probably not going to be too inconvenient to be able to do laundry. Pack neutral colors and just a few accent pieces so that you can create as many different combinations as you can without packing too much.
3. Bring decor and details.
Most temporary housing rentals don’t have much in them in the way of decor, so you should bring a few things from home to help the space feel less like a hotel room and a little more like home. Bring books, candles, family photos, and things of that sort with you, or pick a few things up when you get where you’re going.
